Client case study - Simon P

When I first met Simon, he was really struggling with lower back and hip pain after a nasty fall whilst skiing. He was unable to bend down to tie his shoes without severe pain and had been going for regular osteopath treatments. When we were initially framing the goals of working together the target was to still be skiing when he was 80! We reframed his goals so that we had short and medium-term plans to work towards, and so began the journey of pain management and movement education.

I am continually moving Simon along my flowing continuum of training: i.e mobility, stability, skill acquisition, strengthening and creating power, with the goal being to restore functional movement and keep him skiing.

Fast forward to the present day: Simon has water-skied (something he never thought he would be able to do), deadlifted 140kg for multiple repetitions, along with having a much deeper understanding of the body.

He now has the tools which enable him to be self-sufficient in managing any symptoms that he may potentially get whilst skiing.

He is now healthier, fitter, stronger and pain-free!

Tal came to me around six weeks before the British Bench Championships with the hope of benching pain-free. Something which she’d been unable to achieve since getting a bronze in Bench in University Worlds.

Over the six weeks, Tal went from being unable to bench the bar without pain, to setting a new competition personal best and qualified for the GB squad!

After the initial assessments, I set Tal up with a programme which could mostly be done at home, with a couple of additional exercises to be done in session preparation in the gym. This was all geared towards improving the mobility and stability of not just the joint in question, but the supporting structures as well. We improved on the weak links in the chain with some strengthening movements and technique alterations, restoring her confidence in her ability to bench.
